April SPC Reports

Hey fellas -
I can't let all this hooplah go on about the April tornado reports without saying anything... On April 16th there were 106 reports in North Carolina....and according to the Raleigh office there were 28 confirmed Tornadoes....Thats almost a 4/1 tornado report ratio

There are a lot more chasers (none better than us though) and overall better communication which accounts for the Report inflation.... I'm not saying that in the past there weren't multiple reports on 1 tornado, but I am saying that comparing this month to past months could be misleading.... In terms of Fantasy Football...its like comparing Jerry Rice's 22TD catches in 12 games during the 1987 season, to Randy Moss's 23 in 16 games for 2007......

  1. Funny how I started off my first blog post about this stating:

"All statistics, overinflation, and validity of every report aside"

Of course the SPC reports are extremely inflated, I believe I dedicated an entire post to this earlier in the month. All of that aside though, this April has undoubtedly been extremely active, if not historical, in terms of Severe weather and in particular Tornadoes. There is no denying that fact Mr. Hailstone!

  2. You are nothing more than a report junkie that gets his high off sheriffnadoes and rainshafts... But all kidding aside this is indeed a very impressive month of April... If only it was as simple as record snow across the north + drought in the south = Temp gradient with strong jet and numerous outbreaks....but its not

  3. Hey Hailstone, Gary Lezak just called and said, "Hey that F#$%ing logic is copyright protected in my LRC theory, so back off!!!"

I'm actually still laughing at your post as I write back. Note how in all of my posts I have made sure to use Tornado "Reports" and not tornadoes when discussing this record. So yes, comparing this month's totals with the history books can be missleading especially when taking into account overinflation from locationality and larger numbers of obsessed chasers, present company included, but it's not quite as bad as comparing apples to oranges. More like oranges to nectarines.

Something just popped into my head, ow wait, yes a conspiracy is brewing. I am going on record now stating that SPC in in cahoots with NWS in order to break this record!!! Examine Piece of evidence #1 (taken from SPC front Web page):

"Note: On March 8, 2011, the SPC removed space/time filtering on incoming National Weather Service (NWS) Local Storm Reports (LSRs). This filtering had been used by SPC in an attempt to reduce duplicate reports and limit artificially inflated initial estimates of severe weather events when many reports arrived for the same event. Space/time filtering is no longer being applied to decoded NWS LSRs and this approach is consistent with NWS storm-based verification methods. However, identical reports should still be removed from SPC logs and should not appear on the preliminary maps and lists." To those of you who actually read the blog frequently, unlike some authors...cough Hailstone cough cough... I already posted this earlier on an SPC inflation post. Funny how just this year, in time for April, they have decided to help the high reports cause by removing report filtering...

Once the record is broken I will provide more evidence as to the conspiracy and why John Elway was better than Favre.
